Ordering Hardware Keys and License Files

Before you get a keycode license file for ArcInfo you must either have access to a hardware key (also known as a dongle), or request a "keyless" license file. These are the preferred methods for portable computers. If you have a desktop (stationary) computer, you may point your software to a license server rather than purchasing a hardware key and/or running a license manager on the computer. To point to a license server, after installing the software, go into the ArcGIS Desktop Administrator and point the license manager to one of the license servers we have on campus.

1. Order a Hardware Key or use Keyless Licensing
If you would like to use a hardware key, you can order one or more with a departmental credit card. Call ESRI's Telebusiness department at 1-800-447-9778 x1720 or email their contact at sevich@esri.com. As an educational client, you may purchase one key for $50 or 3 or more keys for $30 each. Or, you can send an order quote to ESRI, File No. 54630, Los Angeles, CA 90074-4630 with a check made out to ESRI to cover the cost of the hardware key(s) and shipping ($50 each + shipping or 3 or more for $30 each + shipping).

If you would like to use keyless licensing (license a computer without using a hardware key, which is a new option for us), please fill out the ESRI software order form. You will also need to make sure you have the latest license manager installed (information will be provided to you when you order a license file).

2. Get on the ArcInfo e-mail list
When you receive your hardware key, please sign up for the Arcinfo list serv. This is very important because it is the only way you can be updated on current information.
