Physical Environment Considerations
Power
COSINe recommends that any mission critical electrical appliances, including PCs and Printers, be protected by either a UPS or surge protector. While a surge protector safeguards against damage caused by power source spikes, a UPS also provides short-term power from battery storage to any attached appliances. Failure to properly protect a PC or other appliance from power fluctuations can result in permanent damage.
Moisture
PCs and printers should be operated free of direct exposure to moisture. In the event of a spill or other other direct contact, unplug the unit from the power source immediately. Open the case, if possible, and dump any freestanding liquid, dab with an absorbent towel, and allow to air-dry completely. DO NOT USE A BLOWDRYER.
Temperature
Optimally, IT equipment should be operated within the temperature range of -5oC - 38oC (25oF - 100oF).
