A power outage affecting most of campus occurred at approximately 0200, 7/5, and lasted until 1235. While most of COSINe servers are in ALS and protected by generator power, one overlooked Windows server--critical for user access to the Z: drive--was not. This resulted in users being unable to access their home directories.
The error was not discovered until 1630, 7/5, at which point the server was restarted and all services were restored.
COSINe Sys Admins have subsequently modified the Z: server to use a power-protected server for authentication.
